Flares in Newcastle Organises Charity Walk for Charlie Bear Cancer Care Unit
The team at Flares on Mosley Street in Newcastle are preparing themselves to brave the Great British Summer and walk from the outskirts of the city to the picturesque town of Hexham in order to raise money for the cancer unit at the Freeman Hospital in Newcastle upon Tyne.
Twelve of the team, including manager Nicola Youden, will be taking in the 17 miles or so in their stride on Tuesday 15th May and already, preparations and training for the walk are well underway.
Nicola Youden said: “The team and I are most likely to be found running around behind a bar serving drinks rather than walking in the countryside taking in the air, but we wanted to raise money for a charity and contribute in whatever way we could. We all thought that a charity walk would be a happy yet challenging compromise.
“We recently had a team meeting and agreed that we wanted to raise money for charity and, as we all know someone whose lives have been touched by cancer, we all agreed on the Charlie Bear Cancer Unit.
We’ll be dressing up in 70s and 80s gear, so we’ll certainly stand out amongst the other walkers and hikers who will be walking the route that day!
We’ll all be relying on donations from local businesses, friends, family and customers and we’ll be encouraging customers to donate any loose change from their rounds into collection buckets. Hopefully, with everyone’s generosity we’ll be able to donate a decent amount to the team at the hospital which will go some way towards thanking them for looking after and caring for the children and adults who use the hospital.”
