The Minster Tavern Hosts Family Fun Day To Bring The Community Together
The Minster Tavern in Ely is hosting a family fun day on Saturday 28th July at Cross Green near Ely Cathedral. Starting at 11am, Andrew Pipe, the new general manager of the pub is hoping to bring the community together in a day of fun, laughter and activity.
As well as bringing the community together, Andrew is planning to help people from further afield by raising money for Build Africa – a charity that works exclusively in rural areas of Kenya and Uganda to offer families long-term solutions to poverty.
The team at the pub have already organised a host of activity including a bouncy castle and face painting for the children, a darts competition in the pub for those who are handy with the tungsten and a traditional school sports day complete with an egg and spoon race, welly tossing, a sack race and tug of war. A BBQ and a beer tent selling a selection of cask ales will also be available on the day. Entry to the family fun day is free of charge.
Andrew has also approached a number of local businesses and sports clubs with a view to donating items for a raffle on the day with all the proceeds going to Build Africa.
Andrew Pipe, general manager of the Minster Tavern said: “I moved to Ely just over two months ago and wanted to create an event that would bring everyone together in a fun way as well as giving me the opportunity to meet people who don’t visit the pub. We’d also like to appeal to local craftspeople to see if they would like to come along on the day and host a stall – the more the merrier! If anyone is interested in show casing their products and talent, all they need to do is contact me at the pub.
“A number of local businesses have already donated items for the raffle including the Ely Tigers Rugby Club who have given us a signed rugby shirt and I would like to appeal to other companies to see if they would be willing to contribute.
“We’re really hoping that the weather will hold out but most importantly, we want everyone who attends the day to leave having had a great time. We’re still finalising some of the details of the day but we are adding more and more activities. If anyone has any suggestions of what they’d like to see on the day, we’ll do all we can to accommodate them – simply pop into the pub and ask for Andy or Keeley!”
