The Britannia pub in Monument’s Market Square is to temporarily close later this week for a week-long refurbishment. The basement pub which is situated in one of the City of London’s most historic Squares is to enjoy a makeover which will include redecoration throughout, refurbished furniture, new carpets and soft furnishings.

General manager Ransford Thomas and his team are busy putting the final plans together for a complimentary drinks reception to be held on Thursday 28th February, to thank loyal customers and local businesses for their support and to welcome them as first guests to see the spruced up pub.

“It’s been a while since we last redecorated the pub and it was beginning to look tired so we decided to bring in the designers to give it a fresh new feel”, said Ransford. “And to thank all our customers and Britannia’s facebook friends, we’re inviting them back for an opening party at 5pm on 28th February. Doors will open from midday for lunchtime guests but the party will really get started from 5pm when we’ll be rolling out the red carpet to add a little glamour to the night and have entertainment in the form of stiltwalkers and firebreathers. There will be a complimentary glass of bubbly for our guests as well as tasters from our menu too.”

One of the Britannia’s suppliers, Greene King will also be on hand during the evening to offer customers samples of its cask ale, IPA.

The Britannia’s hugely popular Thursday night karaoke evening will return after a week’s absence from 8pm. The following day, on Friday 1 March, the pub’s resident DJ returns from 8pm with a late night welcome back party.

The Britannia will continue to offer its customers delicious, freshly prepared pub-food and a wide range of beers and wines. “The Britannia is the perfect location for a mid-week after-work wind down, an end of the week party night or a place to catch all the live sporting action. With eight screens throughout the pub, our sports-mad customers need never miss a thing”, added Ransford.

“We are open at weekends, although as the pub is located in the City, we are also available for full or part hire on Saturday and Sundays. With a late licence it’s an ideal place for a private party!”, he concluded.
