Aldershot is set to buck national pub trends when a brand new pub opens in the town later this month. The George will open on Wellington Street on Thursday 22 November.

Currently trading as The Goose, parent company Stonegate Pub Company will spend £140,000 on the pub when it temporarily closes for a ten-day refurbishment. A new style of traditional pub is planned for the site, offering quality food, real ales and a wide selection of wine and spirits. The pub aims to provide a welcome hub for all in the community in and around Aldershot.

Designed to appeal to diners as well as sports viewers, families enjoying a meal together or friends sharing an evening, the layout of the pub is to change to accommodate this, incorporating specific areas for dining, drinking, dancing and sports viewing.

The George will have a brighter, fresher, more contemporary feel, yet retain the all-important traditional aspects of the British pub – handpull pumps, comfortable seating, friendly welcome. Pictures and memorabilia dating back to the Georgian times when the pub was originally named after King George V, will adorn the walls, a nod back to its heritage. Meanwhile, bigger plasma screens and two SKY boxes are to be installed ensuring the pub’s sports mad customers don’t miss a thing.

General manager Michaela O’Connell is planning to celebrate the pub’s opening with an champagne and canapé reception for invited local businesses and regulars on Thursday 22nd November between 6-8pm. Guests can enjoy a sneak preview of the pub before doors open for a celebratory launch night for all from 8pm, hosted by DJ JC.

“The pub was originally named The George so it seems fitting for it to return to its proper name. The George will be a traditional pub, echoing all that is best about the British high street pub – value for money, quality food, friendly welcome and a packed schedule of entertainment”, said Michaela O’Connell, General Manager of The George. “The pub’s makeover is another example, following in the footsteps of Cineworld and Morrisons, of significant investment being put into Aldershot. We are proud to be opening a new and exciting pub in the town and look forward to welcoming the people of Aldershot along to see for themselves,” she added.
