Situated right in the heart of the action at the South Colonnade in Canary Wharf, the Slug and Lettuce is set to be transformed with a £400,000 New Year investment, and will be celebrating by giving away a sparkling new diamond to one special customer.

The popular bar, which has long been a favourite of office workers in the Wharf, will be introducing new food and drinks menus, adding a delightful range of fresh breakfast dishes, lighter lunches, indulgent desserts and fabulous cocktails.

A total refresh of the bar is taking place throughout January which will see extra space added to the bar to demonstrate the bar’s spectacular cocktail masterclasses.

New food and drinks menus, featuring an extended selection of award-winning wines, craft beers, cask ales and premium draught lagers, will be introduced. A greater range of cocktails using premium spirits brands, is also being added and will be priced at two for one from Saturdays through until Wednesdays, 4pm until close. In addition, three special ‘Recipe for Love’ cocktails will be available throughout February. Served in jam jars and featuring Absolut Vanilla, Absolut Cherry and Absolut Citron, the cocktails are the perfect start to a date, or for enjoying with friends on a girls night out!

World beers such as Estrella Damm, Peroni and Vedett are on the drinks menu along with some new and interesting craft beers such as Portobello London Pilsner, Longhorn IPA from Purity and St Mungo from West Brewery in Glasgow. These products will join some fantastic local cask ales from breweries such as Redemption, Siren Craft Brewery and Twickenham Ales.

Diners will be able to pop in from 7am to enjoy muffins topped with smoked salmon and scrambled egg, a bowl of filling porridge served with honey or classics such as Eggs Benedict or Eggs Royale. Traditional toasted bacon or sausage sandwiches and full English dishes remain on the menu as will a wide selection of traditional, herbal and fruit teas and coffees from Costa Coffee.

The bar will re-open on Monday 2nd February, celebrating with a champagne and canapé reception for corporate guests from 5-7pm on Thursday 5th February. A grand launch party follows on Thursday 12th February, where one lucky customer will walk away with a real diamond as part of a ‘real or not real’ giveaway game. Throughout the evening magicians and cocktail bartenders will entertain guests as a diamond dealer in the bar verifies the real deal.

A tasty Rib-Eye steak, matured for a minimum of 35 days and char-grilled to order; a Smoked Haddock, Salmon and King Prawn Pie, with a cream and leek sauce and topped with buttery mash and cheese; a spicy, colourful Moroccan Chicken salad have all been added to the variety of choice. Platters to share and the lighter 500 calorie menu leave room for the indulgent desserts that are offered two-for-one every day of the week.

The new look Slug with its curved booths and large group tables will be perfect for parties or for groups of friends to enjoy a night out. Reservations made online or in advance at the bar for dining or cocktail masterclasses have the added bonus of exclusive drinks deals. The outside space, which includes a dedicated bar, serving wines by the glass or bottle and draft beer, will have new furniture and heated canopies, accommodating up to 150 customers – just the spot for that office wind down or for meeting girlfriends after work.

The venue will open weekdays from 7am closing at 11pm on Monday to Wednesdays and at midnight on Thursdays and Fridays. During the weekend the bar opens at 10am, closing at 11pm on Saturdays and 10.30pm on Sundays.

“As the office crowd disperse for the weekend, local residents create a totally different atmosphere in the bar during Saturdays and Sundays. We have a children’s licence until 5pm so welcome lots of families. We also have both Sky Sports and BT Sports showing on our screens so E14 residents can enjoy an afternoon or evening of sport right on their doorstep”, added Peter.

The bar has full disabled access.
