Newcastle Under Lyme’s High Street has been treated to a new offer, with the latest in sports viewing facilities at the Golden Lion.

The pub reopened after a week of refurbishment on Tuesday 28th February, when customers had first sight of the new eight TV screens, fresh and welcoming décor, and an extended cask ale range alongside all of the old favourites.

“This investment is about restoring the traditional character and features rather than a dramatic transformation. We’re enhancing the offer bringing a new lease of life to an honest, local pub,” said General Manager Daniel Wilson.

Expanding its cask range, the pub will rotate between local brewers such as Marston’s and Titanic – who will be the first ‘Meet The Brewer’ on 7th March.

Sports will play a significant role in the Golden Lion’s appeal with both Sky and BT Sports showing everything from football to boxing and horseracing across the latest technology HD screens. The opening comes just in time for the much-anticipated Haye vs Bellew fight, which will be showing in the pub on Saturday 4th March – a seated event with table service so nothing of the excitement is missed.

Quality and value remain at the core of the food menu with daily offers. Mega Monday big plates at £3.99 start the week off; Burger andamp; Drink Tuesdays and Thursday Pie and a Pint both at £4.99 just two more of the steals.

The weekly entertainment line up includes Tuesday quiz, Wednesday bingo, Thursday Horse racing, Friday Karaoke, weekend sport and monthly Soul andamp; Motown.

Demonstrating the role pubs play in supporting local charities, the Golden Lion is also organising a number of fundraisers for Douglas Macmillan – the palliative care hospice, for whom the pub raised £868 last year.
