It’s an iconic building on Park Place, saved twelve months ago by owners who have now transformed Henry’s Café Bar in a £300,000 overhaul that Cardiff saw for the first time Wednesday 19th October.
Creating a new contemporary place to be, at the heart of Wales’ beacon city, Stonegate Pub Company has revolutionised premium introducing eight crafted beers; a home to thirty-eight unique cocktails where bartenders put the zing in your Zombie and the tang in your Tennessee twist; and a menu offering generous seasonal dishes.
Launching Cardiff’s answer to a classy, sophisticated, swanky bar, a special VIP launch party took place on Thursday (20th October), 4-6pm with local MP Jo Stevens attending and checking out Stonegate Pub Company’s investment into the city.
Central to theatres, shopping district, Cardiff University, Cardiff Castle in Britain’s most sociable city, the city’s newest chic bar has paid careful thought in providing for every occasion morning ‘til night, whether the demand be eclectic, romantic, relaxed or for cool and funky evenings.
“Henry’s has loads of heritage, there’s many a tale told around the city of great nights out and romantic rendezvous’,” said recently appointed manager Luke Halbert. “We’re retaining that but we’re also modernising – adapting to today’s modern bar goer.”
Craft and cask beers, sourced from Wales homeland as well as national favourites such as Brewdog IPA, Meantime Pale Ale and Doombar show how the bar has adapted. Add to that Passion Fruit Appletini with vodka, Passoã, passion fruit purée and apple juice; Strawberry Shortcake mixing Disaronno, crème de fraise, strawberry purée and half & half; the signature Long Island Iced Tea – and all thirty-eight combinations 241 5-8pm, and the city is bound to be won over.
Fizz Friday, bottles of Prosecco at £13.95 from 5pm, and weekend brunch 10am ‘til noon, serving the full breakfast to eggs benedict or the perfect bacon sarnie, with a glass of something special, kicks the weekend off.
At the start of many tremendous weekends of live music to come, this Saturday Cardiff’s lovely Nadia Griffiths Darbi takes to the bar floor with soul and upgroove vibes and with DJs and acoustics promised for the future, the bar looks set to deliver a different type of weekend. Even Sunday lunch has been extended with slow cooked meats, duck confit and free tops ups on gravy, Yorkshire puds added to Henry’s signature roasts.
The new menu has captured some of Henry’s best-selling dishes, adding lots of new ones. Among the new starters, grilled halloumi served with roasted carrots and vine-roasted tomatoes, and a melted French camembert served with a ring of Garlic Bread and celery sticks – ready to dip.
Main dishes include duck confit served with an orange & Grand Marnier sauce; beef long-bone rib; Davidstow Cheddar cheese, Cornish clotted cream & leek tart; and sea bream en papillote.
There’s even a selection of dishes at 2 for £11.99 served all day Monday – Friday; 25% off on Tuesdays for over 65s; spice night on Wednesdays; sizzling steak Thursdays and 25% off wine with other offers Tuesday to Thursday.
“I can’t tell you how excited we all are to be a part of this refurbishment. It’s one of those that people will talk about for years to come. We plan to cater for every sophisticated bar goer, and look forward to welcoming customers old and new from this week,” added Luke.
