LEIGH-ON-SEA GETS £300,000 INVESTMENT

Leigh-on-Sea’s most popular community pub is getting a £300,000 boost as owners thank its loyal customers and dedicated managers of fifteen years for the success of what the Oakwood pub has become today.

The traditional farmhouse built from the roots up has become such a success, emerging from its originally intended meeting place to the present-day bustling pub, that Stonegate Pub Company agreed it deserved the best in amenities and modern-day offer.

The pub will now open until 1am at weekends so there is no longer a need to travel into town after one of the Oakwood’s legendary party nights. Sport remains a huge focus for the pub with BT Sports, Sky and multiple screens, and the odd entertaining ‘tete de tete’ between managers Chelsea supporter John, and wife Sally, a big West Ham supporter.

The amazing transformation will be revealed at the VIP on Friday 14th July from 5pm with Bohemian duo and regional ‘S-Factor’ winners, ‘Foreign Locals’ and their accordion ready to entertain, as guests sample the expanded range of cask and craft beer, and menu tasters before the party ramps up with a disco from 9pm.

“With a kind of pub that everybody wishes they had, the last 15 years building the Oakwood family have been the best of mine and Sally’s life,” said manager John Tarling.

“To give back a completely refurbished pub is our absolute pleasure and we will continue to build the community spirit that we thrive on.”

Partial to seasonal beer festivals, John is adding to his cask ale crown opening the rotating local and national ale choices to customers, whilst hanging onto one pump with his own rotating  ‘governor’s choice’. Brewdog Punk IPA and Bluemoon introduce craft beers.

“I’m precious about our reputation for ales. CAMRA told us our cellar was the best they’d ever seen and I wont let anyone forget it!” added John.

With a new look comes a new menu. Eleven options sit on a two for £8.99 menu including Fish & Chips, Steak & Ale Pie, and BBQ Chicken Melt. Delicious seasoned Burgers & Drink start at £6.79, Lunch & Drink is on every day for £5.49, there’s a different deal every day, and all enormous desserts are 241 so no one can say no! Whilst the standard breakfast is excellent value at a mere £2.79, go large is just £4.29, available from 10am.

All about positive impact on the community, adding to its enormous charity fundraising, John and Sally are joining a Spartan walk on 30th July for Noah’s Ark children hospice and will continue supporting Hattie’s Heroes, in aid of a local two year old battling leukaemia.
