The team at Slug and Lettuce in St. Albans celebrated their re-opening weekend in real style where one lucky customer, Carly Ryan from St. Albans, walked away with a diamond worth £500.

David Riddell, Manager of the Slug and Lettuce said: “The opening weekend was one of the busiest I’ve seen – it seemed like most of St. Albans came along to celebrate with us. The opening party was just fantastic and there was a really great atmosphere. We were striving to put on a real red carpet event by having fireaters and stilt walkers, welcoming customers to the new-look bar, as well as adding a bit of theatre to the whole experience. What really made the night was Carly’s reaction when she was informed by the jeweller that her gem was the real thing!”

Carly Ryan said: “My friends and I go into the Slug and Lettuce on a regular basis and we thought that going to the re-opening would be a great start to the Easter holidays and to see what the bar looked like. When we were handed the glass of bubbles that had a gem attached, we never dreamt it would be one of us that would have the actual diamond. We were all joking about how it might be us so I was just absolutely amazed when the jeweller confirmed that I had a real diamond. I think I’m going to look into seeing how I can have the diamond set into a piece of jewellery – that way, whenever I wear it I’ll always remember what a great night I had at the Slug and Lettuce!”

The £280,000 refurbishment has seen the bar completely refreshed with new wallpaper, new flooring and a stylish colour scheme of plum, aubergine, purple and gold giving the bar a contemporary yet comfortable appeal. New booth seating and state of the art lighting system which transforms the Slug and Lettuce from a place to enjoy a bite to eat and a drink with friends in the day time to a place with a real party atmosphere later on in the evening has also been introduced.
