The people of Bristol are in for a treat as the New Year brings with it a new pub to the town. The Cider Press on Gloucester Road is set to scream into life on Wednesday 18 January as it launches with a Cider and Ale festival with free warm Rekordling cider for customers on arrival and live music which is certain to banish the January winter blues.

The pub, formerly The Rising Sun, is part of the Scream brand, operated by Stonegate Pub Company and will be unrecognisable to local residents and students after its 2-week refurbishment. The multi-coloured décor and illuminated sign is being banished in favour of a new contemporary black and white colour scheme and modern pictorial pub sign. A striking mural painting of a cider press in warm autumnal colours is taking centre stage in the pub with photographs and images of famous Bristolians donning the walls. The bright, clean look is to be complemented with contemporary new furniture throughout and eclectic lighting including feature pendants and retro fittings.

Keen to show off the new look of the pub, manager Rick Windell will re-open the doors on Wednesday 18th January from 7pm with free cider samples, canapés and live music. “We will be introducing a wide range of ciders and cask ales into the pub, many of which will be guest ones so that customers can try out new ciders or ones not readily available elsewhere. Something of a chameleon, the Cider Press’s core daytime ingredient will be to offer great food at affordable prices, a perfect lunchtime stop, whilst providing by evening some of the best live entertainment in Bristol. There are some superb local bands out there and we’ve set up an impressive line-up for our Friday weekly band night.”

The pub will re-open with a stellar line-up of value for money deals and nightly entertainment. Customers can get two main meals for just £6.50 all day every day whilst drinks can be discounted with Scream’s Yellow Card (available at www.screampubs.co.uk or via app). Some of the key weekly activity and offers include 241 on the new range of homemade stonebaked pizzas on Mondays and Quids on Thursdays when you can purchase selected drinks for just £1. 2012 is a monster year for sport and with two big screens and several plasmas TVs showing SKY Sports and ESPN it will be a big focus for the Cider Press.

Customers can enjoy two for the price of one during cocktail and live band night every Friday at the pub. Beer and breakfast deals will run from the new opening time of 10am every Saturday, followed later on with a DJ hosted night. And on Sunday the pub’s big quiz will challenge even the greatest knowledge buff. Grab your seat from 7pm to win cash prizes.
