Stonegate Pub Company is planning to take advantage of one of the world’s most-played and skilled sports by tapping into the trend of table tennis.

The sport, which has seen resurgence in popularity over the last few years, especially in bars across the world, has been identified by global sports promoters as the one-to-watch, as the number of people interacting with the sport continues to grow.

Customers are already embracing ping pong in a number of Scream and Slug and Lettuce bars who have recently taken delivery of paddles, balls and tables.

“We believe we are the first national pub company to introduce ping pong to our customers,” said Richard Bruce, Marketing Director of the Stonegate Pub Company.

“It’s a great social activity and is becoming increasingly popular as both a playing and spectator sport, with the World Ping Pong Championship recently making its debut in London’s Alexandra Palace in January and televised on Sky.”

“As a company, we are looking for new activities that will appeal to our customers, creating fun and memorable social occasions in our pubs and bars. This search for new trends and innovative ranges across food, drink and the entertainment will help us to ensure stand-out from other pub and bar operators.”

“Our Scream pubs, with their locations near to University campuses, sporting links and traditions along with their target audience are perfectly placed for ping pong as is the Slug and Lettuce in Islington with its creative, professional customer base looking for a light-hearted yet skilled challenge!”
