The Crown and Sceptre, St Marychurch reopens tomorrow after a £180,000 investment, creating five jobs within the local community.

This traditional, community pub, located in the seaside town of Torquay will reopen its doors to customers with changes made to both the interior and exterior of the pub. Although the pub has had a makeover, its new look is sympathetic to The Crown and Sceptre everyone knows and loves. The inside features cob stone walls and open fireplaces, which are great to sit around on cold evenings having some drinks. There are also some quirky features and bric-a-brac placed around, adding to the individuality of the pub. The main bar area features two small bars, which you can see through from one to the other via the middle opening and is home to a wide range of drinks. There is a function room, which features a range of caps and memorabilia hanging along the wall.  The function room can be booked for any private occasion you wish to hold at The Crown and Sceptre.

The Crown and Sceptre’s garden is set to be a hive of social activity in the upcoming summer months. There’ll be mood lighting ideal to create an ideal atmosphere to enjoy drinks on Summer nights. The team is also planning to host barbeques for everyone to enjoy this summer.

The Crown and Sceptre is well known for its casks ales and will have a wide range for you to choose from. The pub has six taps across the two bars showcasing up to six different cask ales that will change frequently to offer variety and the opportunity to try new drinks. If cask ales are not your thing, then why not choose something else from the extensive drinks list including a range of wines, spirits and cocktails along with a choice ciders and lagers. Whilst the pub is predominantly wet led, light bites and simple bar meals will be available to accompany your drinks.

The new Licensees of The Crown and Sceptre are Richard and Anita Ing, who have been working in the industry most of their lifetime. The pair has welcomed the pub into the Champion Inns estate which currently has 42 pubs including four free houses plus long-term tenancies with various breweries.  The Manager at the Crown and Sceptre will be Colin Hinder. Colin has been in the pub trade most of his life and has been managing pubs for the group for many years.

Richard Ing, Licensee of The Crown and Sceptre, said: “It is amazing to be able to welcome the local community of Torquay back into the pub once again. The look and feel really captures it as a traditional pub and we hope that once again, the pub will be the hub of the local community. We hope everyone loves what has been done with the pub as much as we do. Colin and the all the team at Champion Inns look forward to welcoming old and new customers to once again enjoy all The Crown and Sceptre has to offer.

“We are planning some exciting events and can’t wait for you all to come down and get involved. I’m especially excited for the summer months to get the barbeque going and enjoy drinks in the sun until late.”

The pub will be hosting a number of live music events including jazz and folk. There will also be quiz nights and other social events. Keep an eye on The Crown and Sceptre’s Facebook page for upcoming news around these events and to plan your visit.
