A Historic Pub, with 17th century origins is undergoing a major £350,000 refurbishment marking a dramatic change in service and style to restore it as the love of Ickenham when it reopens 17th March.

The Coach & Horses has been serving alcohol since 1759 and the transformation is a much welcome boost for locals. Building on its legacy, diverse real ales and craft beer, classic pub food (promising legendary Sunday roasts), garden with external bar and BBQ - a real talking point of the village, and a place to be on weekend evenings with live music, now open until 1am.

Paul Newton who took over as manager in October with over two decades experience has also said that service will be top of the agenda and to prove it, over twenty new team members who have been training hard whilst the pub has been refurbished, to ensure customers get speedy as well as happy service.

“We’ve poured as much effort into training the new team as we have refurbishing the pub,” said Paul. “The Coach & Horses is a historic pub and the investment is all about putting it back to the core of Ickenham, in the way every villager wants their classic local to be.”

A new decor boasts an array of abstract and glitzy lighting, comfortable seating and chic design. With as many seats outside as in, the garden will keep customers warm not only in the summer, but colder months too thanks to outdoor heating.

Six cask ales include local brewery beers from Fullers and Marlow. Meantime London lager and London Pale Ale take care of craft beer lovers and there are new flavoured ciders, 2for1 cocktails 5-8pm, and Fizz Friday at £13.95 making the weekend worth starting early. With Ickenham definitely behind the gin boom that meant spirits earned more money for HM Treasury than beer for the first time ever last year, over ten different blends on offer, a great result for locals.

A diverse menu is perfect for lunches from £6, to loyal favourites guest-ale-battered cod & chips, sausages and mash, and Sunday roasts with free top ups of roasties, Yorkies and gravy.

Pub fare with a chef’s edge includes Chicken & Brie Pie, and 35 day matured Rump or Ribeye topped with portobello mushroom or pepper sauce. There are also more unusual dishes - Pear & Pecorino Pasta, Sea Bream En Papilotte - and weekly chef specials including dishes such as Rack of
Lamb and Quinoa Chilli.

Desserts to make any meal memorable include Sticky Toffee Pudding, and Blackcurrant & Sloe Gin Meringue – or a mix of four mini puds at £4.99 – big enough to share, or not!

As if there was a need for more reasons to visit – over 65’s club on Tuesday offers 25% discount on main meals paired with quiz night; Wednesday Burger & Drink from £10; Thursday grill night of two grills from £15.99; and monthly Saturday night bands.

The pub also supports the local community helping raise funds for the Ickenham youth cricket club
