Fundraiser for Refugees at Finnegans Wake

Where: Finnegans Wake, 9b Victoria Street, Edinburgh EH1 2HE

When: Saturday 30th March 2019

Finnegans Wake, on Victoria Street in Edinburgh, will be holding a fundraiser for Re-Act, (Refugee Action Scotland) on Saturday 30th March. The event, aptly dubbed the ‘Shave Rave FundraZor’, has been organised by Ray Considine, co-founder of Re-Act, a not-for-profit international humanitarian aid project, working to bring vital supplies and support to displaced refugees across Europe.

Ray, who is also one of the pub’s regular music acts, will be performing his usual set of Irish and popular covers, from 7pm on Saturday, while asking spectators to decide on what hairdo he should receive in the interval. Customers will be able to cast their votes with a small donation to the charity, before Ray is subjected to the winning style in front of his audience.

All proceeds will be donated directly to Re-Act, which aims to bring vital supplies and support to displaced refugees across Europe, as well as campaigning for equality for all, to ensure that refugees have access to basic human rights such as shelter and warmth.

Dillon Plahé, Manager of Finnegans Wake, says: “Ray has been growing his hair for about a year now, especially to do something like this. All I’m saying is there is a fair amount of crazy options for our customers to come up with and we have a pretty creative bunch who come in here!

“Ray has been singing with us for a long time, but this is the first time we’ve worked with him to raise money for the great work that his charity does. It’s a cause I think we could all learn a lot more about and one that can often be sidelined. I’m really happy that we can support Ray and Re-Act in whatever way we can!”
