The Lord Nelson, on London Road in Sutton, is celebrating raising over £10,000 for its local hospice, St Raphael’s Hospice. The pub has had a relationship with the hospice since 2002, but in 2005 they started running an annual Christmas Hamper raffle to raise money for the day-to-day running of the charity.
This year’s raffle has just kicked off with the prized hamper full to bursting with Christmas goodies, including Champagne, chocolates and a teddy. Tickets are available from the pub and the winner will be drawn ahead of Christmas Day.
Stacey Minnell-Gault, General Manager of the Lord Nelson, said: “I can’t believe we’ve managed to raise so much over the years! Our raffle is something that’s so ingrained in our Christmas activity, that it’s second nature. I feel really proud that we’ve contributed such a significant amount. I hope it’s something the Lord Nelson will keep doing indefinitely.
“St Raphael’s is a hospice that provides invaluable care to the Sutton community. The staff there strive to improve the lives of those in the area who are terminally ill or suffer from life limiting illnesses, enabling them to live life to fullest in what is an incredibly difficult time. I think I can speak for the whole of Sutton when I say how much we appreciate what they do for us.
Emily Kaniecki, Head of Donor Development at St Raphael’s Hospice, said: “The Lord Nelson has been one of our longest-term supporters and it is wonderful that they have reached this fundraising milestone for the hospice. It’s down to initiatives like this that we can continue to provide the care and support that we do, so I have to thank Stacey and her team for continuing to raise money and awareness for St Raphael’s Hospice.”
The Lord Nelson has also organised a range of Christmas activity throughout the month, to keep its customers feeling festive in the run up to Christmas. From a Santa Party on Saturday 7th December, to a Christmas Quiz on Tuesday 17th December and ‘Christmas Carol-oke’ on Saturday 21st December, the pub has something for everyone to enjoy.
