Popworld, on North Street in Wolverhampton, is hosting a Haunted Halloween Ball specifically aimed at those with learning disabilities and difficulties. The late-night bar, famed for the best pop playlist in town, is opening its doors from 2pm on Saturday 2nd November, to provide a safe, judgement free space for people to dress up, let their hair down and enjoy Halloween celebration.

The Popworld team have joined forces with learning disabilities charity, Mencap, to organise the event as part of a wider series of party and nightclub experiences that will take place monthly at the bar. The initiative is a result of Events and Social Champion, Marc Parsons’ determination to bring the Popworld vibe to the whole community.

Marc said: “Some of my best memories from throughout my life have been on nights out with my friends – many of them I’ll never forget. The relationships within my friendship group were forged and solidified in bars and clubs, and I think being able to go out and have fun is part of a right of passage in life. I really believe that everyone should be able to have those kinds of experiences.

“That’s why we’ve decided to open Popworld every month for different themed party or club nights –to make sure that everyone in the Wolverhampton community has the same opportunities to socialise, meet new people and have a great time. Working with Mencap, I also want to help raise awareness for the amazing work that they do.”

Mencap is a leading voice for those with learning disabilities. They work tirelessly to ensure everyone with a learning disability or difficulty feels valued, as well as supporting them, their families and their carers. The charity is working towards a world where people with learning disabilities are valued equally, listened to and included, by fighting to change laws, improve services and access to education, employment and leisure facilities. Having the opportunity to enjoy safe, fun nights out and social gatherings is part of that goal.

Laura Bruce, Area Fundraising Manager for Mencap, said: “It’s amazing to be able to provide meaningful opportunities for the people we serve in the community and for Popworld to help us in our mission to raise awareness around difficulties faced by those with learning disabilities is just fantastic. We’re looking forward to working with Marc and the team as we look to host many more events in the future.”
