With emerging pub trends, Wallington has been watching with interest as to what the Melbourne pub, a stone’s throw from Wallington railway station will look like, after builders moved in recently – they weren’t dissapointed.

Unveiling the investment at a whopping £250,000, owner Stonegate Pub Company have revealed a ‘customary is the new contemporary’ approach, restoring the traditional tavern, complimenting it with the latest sports viewing technology, and a little diversity by the all new garden beach huts!

The pub reopened on Friday 2nd December after a three-week makeover, invited guests were able to preview the time-honoured bar before the party livened up at 7pm when locals absorbed the London warmth and partied into the weekend with chart topping tunes.

Boasting viewpoints from every corner, with the most up-to-date 4K HDR screens; Sky and BT sports; and Sports Table Service during big matches; it’s clear the Melbourne is hot tipped to be Wallington’s home for live sports, providing a sociable and safe environment to celebrate sport away from the quiet of locals’ own homes.

With a nod to retro pub classic, there are also planned quiz nights; pool league supported by two new pool tables for the more interactive sports fan; DJ Thursday, Friday and Saturday from requests, to chart music and 70’s and 80’s.

Embracing craft beer, Blue Moon and Brewdog IPA have been added to three cask ales sourced locally. ‘Seven Deadly Gins’, botanicals carefully paired with mixers and garnishes; and cocktails, show a true understanding for the modern pub goer.

Amazing beach huts in the pub’s heated garden, set against astro-turf to emphasise the sports focus, sit amongst a pergola, with enough space for an external pool table in the summer months.

Tracey Edwards, the Melbourne’s ’new’ manager, returning after training as a deputy manager at the pub a few years ago, said: “Pubs have been round the block and back again with all sorts of looks and offers. We have kept things simple and matched this pub to the community we sit in.

We are enticing local people out, to socialise and feel a part of something as pubs were originally designed.”

Keeping it community focused, the pub is a big player in Pubwatch, a pub safety scheme; raise money for charity; recruit locally; and keep customers topped up with free snacks after midnight at the weekend.
